For loud sound sources like guitar cabinets or snare drums, the +18 dB setting or the option to bypass the preamp altogether reverts the SM7dB to the original SM7B output level. Conversely, the built-in +28 dB boost is perfect for podcasting or recording quiet vocals.

A convenient bypass mode enables you to forego the built-in preamp if you prefer to feed the mic's unboosted signal directly into your professional console or interface. Bypassing the preamp reverts the SM7dB to the original SM7B performance.
